The MPNFL 2022 Season will get underway on Saturday April 2, with two blockbusters to start the Division One competition. Scheduled 2021 finalists go head-to-head, when Mt Eliza takes on Frankston Bombers, while Bonbeach and Frankston YCW will meet for the first time since the 2019 Elimination Final. The first siren will sound on the same weekend for Division Two with four games, when Seaford v Langwarrin, Crib Point v Chelsea, Somerville v Hastings on Saturday, before Devon Meadows play Pearcedale on Sunday April 3 to round out the return to football and netball in the region. All 22 MPNFL Clubs will compete on Saturday April 9, before further marquee matches create an opportunity for big crowds over the Easter long weekend. Karingal and Rye host Mornington and Tyabb respectively on Good Friday in Division Two, while the traditional Edithvale-Aspendale v Bonbeach and Red Hill v Dromana clashes will headline Division One. Easter Saturday sees local rivals Sorrento play Rosebud and Pines host Frankston YCW. Back-to-back long weekends complete the first four weeks of the MPNFL calendar, with the ANZAC Day long weekend providing big games, capped off with Mt Eliza v Red Hill and Mornington taking on Devon Meadows on the public holiday Monday to commemorate the sacrifice of our incredible service men and women. As part of the MPNFL’s Reconciliation Action Plan, in conjunction with MPNFL clubs’ own commitments, Saturday May 21 will see four matches recognise National Reconciliation Week. Two matches in Division Two (Crib Point v Tyabb and Hastings v Pearcedale) headline the occasion, meanwhile Division One (Frankston Bombers v Bonbeach and Pines v Red Hill) will also have ceremonies to acknowledge shared histories, cultures and achievements and explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Clubs participating will also be wearing Indigenous jumpers to further raise awareness in the lead up to National Reconciliation Week. Division Two will have a competition bye on Queens Birthday weekend, while all roads lead down the Southern Peninsula with Sorrento hosting Rosebud on Saturday June 11 and Dromana hosting Red Hill on Sunday June 12 in standalone Division One clashes. Division One will have a bye on Saturday July 9 in the lead up to the final six rounds, with an opportunity for football and netball lovers to see Division Two clashes between Chelsea and Devon Meadows, Crib Point and Hastings, Karingal and Tyabb, Langwarrin and Somerville, Seaford and Pearcedale. Rye will take on Mornington in celebration of their 100^th season on this weekend. All 22 clubs will be eyeing a hopeful finals berth, with Division Two starting their four-week finals series on August 20 with a Premiership Cup to be held aloft on Saturday September 10. The 22 Clubs of the MPNFL met last night to consider the applications of Frankston Dolphins FNC and Cranbourne FNC to join the MPNFL. AFLSE Region Manager Will Dakis informed the meeting that Cranbourne FNC had formally withdrawn its application. The motion to consider the Cranbourne FNC application was withdrawn. The 22 MPNFL clubs then considered the second motion regarding Frankston Dolphins FNC, although achieving a majority of votes, the required 75 percent was not achieved. Further motions proposed by the Hastings FNC regarding the promotion of Langwarrin and Mornington to Division 1 were debated and defeated. -end-

Applications for the AFLV Community Level 3 Coaching Accreditation Course are now open.

• Phase 1 of the course will be delivered over two sessions as a face-to-face workshop to be held in Melbourne.
• Phase 2 will be conducted virtually across three sessions.
• Phase 3 will be conducted as 5 x 1.5-hour monthly online Webinar sessions. Coaches will be divided into small Peer Learning Groups with opportunities to connect once a month between the formal learning sessions.

The AFLSE Commission is pleased to announce the induction of Michael (Mick) O’Rourke of the Rye Football Netball Club as a Life Member of the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League. The AFLSE Commission approved the nomination in 2019 however, due to COVID the presentation was delayed. AFLSE Region Manager, Will Dakis made the Life Member Announcement at yesterday’s club Sponsors luncheon in front of family and club sponsors. Mick commenced his 57-year association with the MPNFL and the Rye Football Netball Club as an under 17’s player for Rye in 1964. Mick is still an active member of the club holding the current position of Club President, a position he has held for 20 years. Mick has had an outstanding 36 years as senior office-bearer volunteering in various roles at the club including general committee, Treasurer, Secretary, Tribunal Advocate, Shire liaison and Junior Club Delegate. 1969 – 1979 & 1996 – 2001:   General committee 1980 – 1995:                          Vice President 2002 – 2021:                          President. A Life Member of the Rye FNC, Mick also played 342 club games, (113 senior), played in one senior premiership, and was involved in six reserves premierships, two as a player, one as captain/coach, and three as a coach. He also won two reserves' best and fairest awards. Mick has been our Rye Sports and Social Club representative for the last 46 years and plays a pivotal role, with the successful running of the annual Rye Gift in January each year. WHAT IS FOAM ROLLING? Foam rolling works by placing direct and sweeping pressure on the soft tissue targeted. Foam rolling has shown to have short-term benefits that result in increased joint range of movement, reductions in pain, and severity of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). Foam rolling has been shown to be particularly effective in the first 1-2 days following exercise. It is theorized that foam rolling helps to produce the above results by causing short-term alterations to the neuromuscular system. However, the exact physiological mechanisms of foam rolling that cause the above results are yet to be clearly established. HOW TO EFFECTIVELY FOAM ROLL? Depending on the muscle group you are targeting, use the foam roller in a sweeping fashion along the length of the muscle. You can also friction over ‘problem’ or ‘tight’ areas. You may use a foam roller, spikey ball, trigger point ball or hand roller with this technique. WHEN TO USE FOAM ROLLING? Foam rolling can be used before or after a game of sport, for approximately 1-2 minutes per major muscle group (eg. hamstrings or quadriceps). Before a game, foam rolling should only play a small role in your active warm-up. After a game, foam rolling should be combined with an active cool-down and then static stretching. Female Football Advocate Program – Expression of Interest

As a part of our focus on supporting female football across the state, we are looking for expressions of interest for Female Football Advocates for the South East Region. The Female Football advocate program will deliver additional face to face club support to enhance female football focus within clubs, leagues, and regions. The program aims to:

• Provide targeted support to clubs that have the opportunity to offer female football competitions and teams
• Provide Face to Face support through a female advocate approach to all clubs/leagues/regions.
• Assist in supporting club/league committees to maintain a female focus when making football decisions and supporting with resources/education and knowledge on all facets of female football
• Offer guidance on all establishing female football teams, competitions, and clubs across the state.
• Support all Participation programs with a female focus

The role of a Female Football Advocate will be suited to people who have extensive female football experience in the community whether as a player, volunteer, administrator, or coach. Also, have a passion for promoting female football across the community. The role includes (but not limited to):

• Identify Female Team opportunities in clubs
• Identify Female competitions opportunities in the regions
• Run Female programs in support of our Participation Team in all leagues within the region
• Identify potential female coaches in the Regions
• Support Club committees in having a female focus on participation
• Promote Female Committee members/appointments
• Run education programs to clubs on "Female Blueprint" for clubs
• Support the regions with female competition sponsorship opportunities as the advocate
• Promote Club Help + coach.afl for clubs in supporting female football participation
• Promote Female football in media opportunities for the region
• Share social media content and communications for female football in the region
• Identify clubs/leagues needing additional financial support to promote female football

It should be noted that Female Football Advocates may perform multiple engagements with a variety of clubs/leagues over the course of the 12-month period. Female Football Advocates will be remunerated, based on an hourly rate to be agreed between the Female Football Advocate and Metro League / Country Region at the time of engagement.
