Gun Sorrento midfielder Mitch Hallahan is now focussed on adding a premiership to an already stellar season after taking out the E.V. Shade Medal at the Mornington Racecourse on Monday night.
Hallahan, who has previously plied his trade in the AFL with both Hawthorn and the Gold Coast Suns, polled 21 votes to take out the best and fairest award in Chisholm MPNFL Division One.
The strong-as-an-Ox midfielder won the award after polling three votes in the final round of the season to overtake Pines’ onballer Luke Potts – who finished two votes back on 19.
Bonbeach star Shane McDonald finished tied for third with Rosebud’s Sean Downie on 17 votes, with Pines’ ruckman Russell Gabriel two votes further back in fifth.
Hallahan thanked his mum and dad for their involvement with his career and showed true emotion when mentioning his brother James – a teammate and captain of the club.
The Hallahan boys have played key roles in the Sharks booking a grand final berth at Frankston Park on Sunday, September 15. The Sharks will now wait to see who wins this week’s preliminary final clash between Dromana and Bonbeach at Rosebud.

Chelsea star Todd Gardiner had a fantastic season, sweeping the pool in division two.
Gardiner polled 23 votes to win the George Osbourne Medal, two clear of Somerville forward Paul Fermanis. Gardiner was also named the captain of the division two team of the year and took home the goal of the year award after a brilliant five-bounce six-pointer against Karingal.
Chelsea star Todd Gardiner swept the pool at the MPNFL Awards Night.
MPNFL netballers also shined on the big stage with Frankston YCW’s Lyshae Barry and Dromana’s Emily Wilson polling 20 votes to share the Chisholm MPNFL Division One best and fairest award.
Barry had a consistent season, being in second place after nine rounds, while Wilson came from the clouds in the second half of the season.
Langwarrin goaler Emily Bennet will also have the chance to add some premiership silverware to her collection after claiming the Chisholm MPNFL Division Two best and fairest award.
Bennet, who scored the majority of her votes in the latter part of the season, will be a major player when the Kangaroos take on crib Point in Saturday’s A Grade grand final at Somerville.
Bennet won a very tight race, polling 24 votes to win by one from Tyabb defender Caitlin Watson, with Crib Point midcourter Dionne Douglas a vote further back in third.
Lyshae Barry, left, and Emily Wilson were joint winners of the Chisholm MPFNL Division One A Grade best and fairest award.
